She / her
Leah was recently awarded a studio at Coreset having applied through open call. She is a textile artist inspired by natural circular design exploring issues surrounding textile waste and overconsumption. She works with natural materials, combining practices such as weaving, paper making, natural dyeing, root cultivation, and sewing. She is examining ways of altering the wasteful life cycle of single use garments, such as the contemporary wedding dress, exploring the future of compostable textiles using paper, natural fibers, grass roots and seeds.
Leah aims to create a symbolic relationship between the wearer and the end of their garments life cycle. Her concept proposes that the dress is planted in the ground to grow plants of the brides choice. She is deeply interested in traditional Japanese textiles due to the respect that the Japanese have for materials. As she co-creates with nature from start to finish, Leah often begins with sketches and drawings which are then interpreted physically using a combination of traditional and unconventional techniques.
Leah holds a first class honours BA Textile Design from Loughborough University 2025, was the 2025 recipient of UltraFabrics Sustainable Design Award at London's New Designers, and the GF Smith Award. Leah is one of 25 GREEN GRADS who will be at the Great Northern Contemporary Craft Fair later this month. She is a member of The Textile Society.
