Lili is a Singapore-born, ethnically Malay artist who works across performance, culinary arts, community engagement and heritage preservation. Her interdisciplinary practice bridges traditional Southeast Asian cultural forms with contemporary community-centered research, exploring how heritage can be preserved and reimagined for global audiences.
Food becomes a powerful language of connection in Lili's work as she crafts and shares sambal through her platform kulilinari. Her practice examines the emotional resonance of migration and adaptation, investigating how traditional recipes evolve across borders while carrying the spirit of home. She creates multi-sensory experiences that engage participants through taste, movement, storytelling and music, making intangible cultural heritage accessible to contemporary UK audiences.
Rooted in her training in traditional Southeast Asian dance, music and theatre, Lili's work fosters inclusive cultural dialogue through shared cooking experiences. She hopes to invite participants to engage with the histories, memories and values that food holds, creating spaces for deeper connection between cultures and generations through the simple, powerful act of sharing meals.
Lili holds an MA in Art Education Culture and Practice from UCL's Institute of Education and is currently undertaking a PhD in Cultural Heritage at the University of Birmingham's School of History & Cultures. She trained in Technical and Production Management at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, University of London, and serves as Non-Executive Director of Anansi Theatre Company, working both backstage and onstage as producer, arts manager, and stage manager.
