Dawn Wray
Gestalt Therapist
She / her
Life can be messy and murky, and much as we might wish it, there isn't a single simple answer. We’re all shaped by the world around us—and we shape it in return.
Dawn’s path into psychotherapy began after many years in financial services, which isn’t as unrelated as it might appear. In both careers, her focus has always been on what happens between people, and on valuing who we are and how we relate—not just what we do—as the best starting point. Gestalt therapy was a very deliberate choice; it gave Dawn a language and a form of expression for her way of seeing and being in the world.
In 2021, Dawn co-founded The Listening Collective, where these threads of her work come together. Informed by Gestalt therapy, she brings relational practice into personal and cultural change in organisations, helping people and workplaces to thrive. Her current research explores how workplaces can identify and play a role in preventing male suicide, reflecting a commitment to using psychotherapy research as a catalyst for real-world change. She works in private practice, as a therapist and supervisor, as well as with an organisation supporting families and young people.
Creativity is at the heart of her practice. As Nancy Amendt-Lyon puts it: “Creativity helps us come in the back door and take ourselves by surprise.” Sometimes words are elusive, and our expression needs a different form.
Dawn has a particular interest in working with young adults, exploring neurodiversity, and understanding the effects of transgenerational trauma.
