After spending a year at Newark College, Oscar has noticed his personal and creative growth. At Coreset, he feels encouraged to face the doubts and negative thoughts that so many fall to, and work through them to find individuality, explore meaningful themes in our creative practice and embrace creative processes which he hopes will develop alongside their visual language.

 

What he loves most about Coreset is the conversations with the other residents, specifically how insightful they are. He believes learning about the lives, opinions and practices of other artists and creative individuals is one of the most enriching experiences a young artist could ask for. It inspires Oscar's curiosity and is a welcome that he thinks young people don't often receive from adults. He says that 'Coreset has a great support system and is an important space to make connections and build a reputation because of its own incredible reputation. I am very appreciative of this opportunity and will use it to its fullest potential.'

 

Oscar's dream is an unspecific one, but an important one nonetheless. He wants to make a positive impact on the lives of other people, small or big, any impact is worth it. Because Oscar believes in life that our sole purpose is to live with kindness in our hearts not only for others, but also for ourselves.

As for interests, he is drawn to the weird and wonderful, especially in fashion and more recently in abstract mixed media work. He enjoys sparking an uncomfortable or unexpected feeling in people when they see his art, leaning towards darker themes and bold statements, while taking inspiration from drag artists like Leigh Bowery who preaches individuality and uproar within society.

 

Throughout their life Oscar has struggled with a chronic illness, Ehlers Danlos Syndrome (EDS), and has had to face negative people who seemingly wanted to diminish his identity, whether through their own biases or ignorance, Oscar has vowed that he will do all he can to be bold, bright and beautiful so those who feel the same don't live their lives hiding who they are.

Oscar is on a journey to claim his inner creative joy and wonder, and more than anything, to make a great impact on the lives of those that need it most.
